We successfully proved, in September 2021, that we were committed to the teaching of Rights within the school and that all the children, staff and parents were aware of the special ethos created by being Rights Respecting. We are currently maintaining the SILVER level of the award and are continuing our journey to Gold.

The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. The RRSA seeks to put the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s ethos and culture to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. A rights-respecting school is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day.

Meet our wonderful Changemakers .........

Our rights respecting steering group includes a pupil from every class in the school from Years 1 to 6.They work together to ensure everyone is enjoying and learning about their rights. Our school has a whole class charter which celebrates everyone’s commitment to learning and protecting children’s rights.

At Abbots Green, we are all rights holders. We know and understand that our rights are Inherent, Indivisible, Inalienable, Universal and Unconditional. Our duty bearers protect, respect and help fulfil our rights.

Abbots Green Academy have recently achieved the second level of the UNICEF Rights and Respecting Award.  This level of the award recognises that teaching and learning about, through and for rights is becoming established in aspects of the community.
